April reading round-up!

This month has been a good month for reading - I've read ten books! This photo doesn't do it justice, because one of my books is with a friend, and two others had to go back to the library. But here they are in all their stacked glory!

My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga - Aysel and Roman meet on the suicide chatroom, Smooth Passages, and agree to be each other's suicide partner. But as the deadline draws closer, Aysel wonders if there's hope for her after all. 3 out of 5 stars

Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard - adapted into the popular television series, the first book finds Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily three years after their friend Ali went missing. In this instalment, Ali's body is found, opening up a murder investigation, and their secrets aren't safe - mystery texter 'A' is ready to spill all. 5 out of 5 stars

Othergirl by Nicole Burstein - Erica and Louise are best friends, partners in crime, super hero and assistant. As Erica begins superhero training, Louise investigates the validity of Erica's new friend, Jay. 5 out of 5 stars

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli - Simon and Blue email each other every day. They go to the same school, they're both gay, but they don't know each other - they've hidden their real names because neither one is 'out'. So when someone threatens to expose Simon, he panics. What will this mean for his friendship with Blue? 5 out of 5 stars

Multilingualism by John Edwards - to throw an odd read into the mix, this was a set text that I had to read for one of my university modules. Although I didn't do this myself, it could be read in a single sitting and provides an easy-to-read overview of the topic. A simple starting point. 4 out of 5 stars

Under My Skin by James Dawson - when shy and sweet Sally Feather feels drawn to a tattoo parlour one day, she doesn't think anything of it. Not until her tattoo, sassy pin-up Molly-Sue, starts talking to and even possessing Sally. And Sally's attempts at tattoo removal are no match for the power of Molly Sue. 5 out of 5 stars

Creative Writing: How to Unlock Your Imagination and Develop Your Writing Skills by Adele Ramet - I read this for tips on improving my writing and it has definitely helped me. I only wish now that it was my own copy and not the library's - it would be good to own for future reference. 4 out of 5 stars

First, Last and Always by Kim Lehman - Charlotte and Miles have been best friends forever, but Miles has a secret. He's been in love with her since the third grade, but will he tell her? (Thank you to Netgalley for this copy) 5 out of 5 stars

Crow Moon by Anna McKerrow - the Greenworld is a simpler way of life compared to the greedy, fuel-hungry Redworld. Danny's mom is one of the head witches, and as he begins to discover his own power, he also falls in love with Saba, a powerful witch he meets. 4 out of 5 stars

Starring Kitty by Keris Stainton - Kitty enters the local film competition with her best friends, Hannah and Sunny, to take her mind of her mom's illness and the girl she likes but is too afraid to admit to her friends and family, for fear of the bullies finding out. 5 out of 5 stars

Things We Know By Heart by Jessi Kirby - when Quinn's boyfriend Trent died, his organs were donated. She has met them all, except the guy who got his heart. She finds Colton as a way of keeping Trent close, but instead finds a reason to let him go. 5 out of 5 stars

I had a really good month of reading, and this was because I needed an escape that only books could offer me. Now that I've finished my university degree, I'm expecting to have a lot more months like this, where the books I've read keep stacking up. I'm already ahead of schedule for my goodreads challenge, which is the most important thing.

March reading round-up!

Another month is over, and I'd like to share with you all the books I've read this month. I've read 1 book on my kindle, and 6 paperbacks - a total of 7 books. I haven't read as much as I wanted to this month, because of family stuff - but hopefully I'll pick it back up next month. I'm still 2 books ahead of schedule for my reading challenge!

The Sin Eater's Daughter by Melinda Salisbury - the first book in the trilogy, Twylla has a gift from the Gods - the power to kill people with one touch of her poisonous skin. Beautifully written, one of my favourites of 2015 so far! 5 out of 5 stars

Benjamin Buckingham and the Nightmare's Nightmare by Gregory Gerschwin - nine year old Benjamin goes on a quest to restore people's ability to dream and stop nightmares from taking over. 4 out of 5 stars

Burn for Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian - three girls become unlikely friends as they get revenge on the people who have made their life hell - but how far will they go? first in the trilogy. 5 out of 5 stars

Murder Most Unladylike by Robin Stevens - the first case for the Wells and Wong detective society is a gruesome murder of the science mistress at their school. such a gripping read, I love Robin's writing style! 5 out of 5 stars

The Last Leaves Falling by Sarah Benwell - Sora is dying from ALS, but his new friends are giving him a new life. They may make Sora forget, but no amount of friends will stop fate. a wonderful debut! 5 out of 5 stars

Hook's Daughter by Heidi Schulz - when the infamous Captain Hook is finally defeated by the Neverland crocodile, his daughter Jocelyn runs away from finishing school to avenge his death. 4 out of 5 stars

Only Ever Yours by Louise O'Neill - freida is an eve, designed to one day fulfill a purpose, either as a companion, a concubine or a chastity. as the Ceremony approaches, the pressure to be perfect builds. 4 out of 5 stars 

February reading round-up!

The pile doesn't look that big, but that's because I read 1 hardback, 6 paperbacks, and 3 kindle books, resulting in a total of 10 books this month. And if you're wondering how I'm doing with my goodreads challenge, I've read 19 out of the 100 books I want to read. Pretty sure that puts me ahead of schedule, but I could be wrong. Girl Online by Zoe Sugg - Penny anonymously blogs under the persona of Girl Online, and only her best friend Elliot knows it's her. When the family go to New York, Penny finds herself falling for a mysterious boy called Noah, and blogging about it. What could possibly go wrong? 5 out of 5 stars

Jessie Hearts NYC by Keris Stainton - Jessie is visiting New York City for the summer with her best friend Emma. Finn lives in New York City, working in insurance when he would rather work in architecture, and is in love with his best friend Scott's girlfriend, Sam. When Jessie and Finn keep bumping into each other, they begin to wonder - is it fate? 5 out of 5 stars

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum - the first book in the Oz series, when Dorothy is transported by cyclone to the mysterious land of Oz. Desperately wanting to return home, she ends up making friends along the way. A tin woodman, a lion and a scarecrow all accompany her to the Emerald City to ask the Wizard of Oz to grant their wishes. 4 out of 5 stars

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson - when Lennie's sister Bailey dies, she leaves devastation in her wake. But how can Lennie be falling in love when she's also grieving the loss of her best friend? Does that make her a bad sister? 4 out of 5 stars

Me and Mr J by Rachel McIntyre - Lara Titliss is horrifically bullied, and no one can see but Ben Jagger. She soon starts to fall in love with him, but she can't have him... He's her teacher. 5 out of 5 stars
